BFR, when done correctly, is designed only to slow blood flow out of the limbs. Also, studies show that when the wraps are too narrow or too wide they may restrict arterial blood flow.
BFR training is very safe. In fact, The Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports suggests "Blood flow restriction training research thus far is promising with respect to safety outcomes. Individuals respond similarly to blood flow restriction training and to regular exercise."
Yes, it is true that BFR can yield results similar to when you lift very heavy weights, but it works best when combined into a program that consists of traditional strength training + BFR.
Wear the bands at the top of the arms or legs.
When the bands are tightened to the appropriate pressure, they help slow blood flow away from the limbs and not blood flow in.
While lifting with very light weights, organic compounds such as lactate begin to accumulate.

“I opted for the "elite model" since they appeared to be more comfortable from the pictures and descriptions. They arrived the other day and I immediately put them to use. I had been experimenting with short sleeve compression shirts for my arm workouts and noticed that they were able to give me a decent pump with very little restriction (at my armpit). I decided to give the bands a try since there is some actual research supporting blood-flow restriction (BFR) and muscular hypertrophy. The notion that I could use less weight and decrease the duration of my workouts was also appealing. Putting them on (my arms) was pretty straightforward and since the elite model has elastic woven into the material it 'gives' a little no matter how light you wrap the bands. Speaking of tight, the recommendations are to lighten the bands to a "7" on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the tightest. I would use caution here. I think I only tightened the bands to a "5" and they still restricted blood flow and gave me a generouspump. Another caution is not to wear the bands for more than 10 minutes (at a time I suppose), but since my arm workout takes more than 10 minutes, and I don't really want to take them on and off during my routine, I decided to go with less restriction. The pump is very good- not on the scale of how Arnold describes it in the movie Pumping Iron (yes, you're going to have to look that up if you don't already know...), but still very satisfying. I definitely agree with the recommendations to perform higher repetitions, somewhere in the 10 - 20 range, but even with a little restriction (say a 3 or 4) you're going to add some spice to your arm workouts, which isn't to say that you can't wear them for other body-parts; chest, back, shoulders, perhaps with less restriction in those workouts, and change things up. These are well worth the price (a good compression shirt costs as much as $50 and doesn't, work nearly as well) and I would recommend them over the basic model for comfort alone.”

“Great product. This is my first time with occlusion training and I am really enjoying it.”

“Very impressed! I measured my flexed ams before going to the gym and did an arm routine. I measured them again and it had pumped 1/2 an inch! measured them the next morning and it kept 1/4 of an inch. I'm wondering if it will allow men o do the same routine more than once a week but again 1/4”/week?! I'm sold. “

“The bands themselves are very good quality; the material is sturdy and well made. The buckle is easy to work and holds sturdy. I used them for an upper body workout and was pleased that they held firm the entire time and were very comfortable (well, comfortable considering I was constricting blood flow)”

“A new way to training for me! I really... results during and after my arm workout. These are really comfortable when put on, they don't feel at all like a tourniquet used at doctor offices. I think the width has a lot to do with it. Anyway, using them as directed, I got a FANTASTIC pump. I used lighter weights than normal but was able to do more reps. I don't have big biceps (only 15.25) but after the workout, I taped at 16.07. I was very please. I took them off for tricep work but next time a do chest, gonna put them on and see what effect they have on the triceps. I would really suggest you give these a try if you are interested in a newer training form than what you might be doing currently.”

“Love this product, Trying to find bands that would fit both arms and legs for training was difficult thanks to my massive quads, but these bands fit perfectly and dill allow room for future gains, ;)”

“Great product and well constructed. Fit is good and fairly easy to self adjust Tighter fit may require help but he careful not to tighten too much. I haven't seen a haler product on the market Conk waste time using wrist wraps. These are a superior.”
